Philosophy
We believe in:
- The power of nature to awaken a child's senses, curiousity and desire to learn.
- Building relationships with adults and peers should be a cornerstone for every child.
- Creating experiences that will build caring and confident youth today who will grow into tomorrow's leaders.
Location
Camp Dart-Lo is nestled in North Spokane, just west of the Wandermere Golf Course, on Dartford Drive. Minutes away from downtown, Dart-Lo feels remote with acres of natural landscape hidden away from the city commotion. Dart-Lo provides convenient bus transportation throughout Spokane and Spokane Valley. Find the stop best for you.
Camp Staff
Counselors, lifeguards, activity specialists and support staff come from diverse backgrounds, much like the campers they serve.
National background checks are just the beginning. Staff are carefully screened and selected for their desire to work with campers in the outdoors, ability to teach and lead, as well as be positive role models. Laughing and having fun with campers is also an important quality of staff. All staff receive intense training before the camp season begins, as well as ongoing support throughout the season.
History
In 1945, the Kiwanis Club and Camp Fire organized a partnership to provide summer day camp programs. The name Dart-Lo comes from "low down by the river on Dartford." Today, Camp Fire USA Inland Northwest Council owns and operates the 51 acres of fun and adventure along the Little Spokane River. Camp Fire USA welcomes all children and you don't have to be a member of Camp Fire to attend Camp Dart-Lo. Camp Dart-lo provides the summer experience of a lifetime!
Health & Safety
Because of the rustic nature of Camp Dart-Lo's facilities, much of the programming is impacted by the natural surroundings. For campers' safety, they must be able to navigate rugged, uneven terrain. Dart-Lo also firmly believe that all campers are entitled to a pleasant and harmonious camp environment. For that reason, camp is unable to serve children who display chronic or severely disruptive behavior.
Campers must bring a completed Health History Form upon arrival at camp. First Aid/CPR certified staff and emergency transportation are available.
Accreditation
Camp Dart-Lo is in compliance with hundreds of standards and regulations required for accreditation by the American Camp Association and various government agencies. Dart-Lo meets or exceeds these standards in all areas (health & safety, program quality, transportation, qualifications of staff, food service, sanitation, and site/facility issues). Camp Fire USA reserves the right to cancel any camping session or program.
